DENTAL BRIDGES

A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap — these two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth — and a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.

There are three main types of dental bridges:

Traditional bridges involve creating a crown for the tooth or implant on either side of the missing tooth, with a pontic in between.Cantilever bridges are used when there are adjacent teeth on only one side of the missing tooth or teeth.Maryland bonded bridges are made of porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or plastic teeth. Metal or porcelain wings often on just one side of the bridge are bonded to your existing teeth.

DENTURES

People wear dentures to replace lost or missing teeth so they can enjoy a healthy diet and smile with confidence. Dentures are made of either acrylic (plastic) or metal.
A ‘complete’ or ‘full’ denture is one which replaces all the natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaw. A ‘partial’ denture fills in the spaces left by lost or missing teeth. It may be fastened to your natural teeth with metal clasps or ‘precision attachments’. Usually dentures can be fitted straight after your teeth have been removed. These are called ‘immediate dentures’. Sometimes your dental team may advise you to wait until your gums are healed before having your dentures, as this can sometimes mean a better fit. Healing may take several months.

ROOT CANAL FILLING

(Endodontic treatment)
Inside the tooth, under the white enamel and a hard layer called the dentin, is a soft tissue called the pulp. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue, and helps to grow the root of your tooth during development. In a fully developed tooth, the tooth can survive without the pulp because the tooth continues to be nourished by the tissues surrounding it.
Contrary to jokes about the matter, modern endodontic treatment is very similar to having a routine filling and usually can be completed in one or two appointments, depending on the condition of your tooth and your personal circumstances. You can expect a comfortable experience during and after your appointment.

SAVING THE NATURAL TOOTH WITH ROOT CANAL TREATMENT HAS MANY ADVANTAGES:

Efficient chewing

Normal biting force and sensation

Natural appearance

Protects other teeth from excessive wear or strain

DENTAL IMPLANTS

In the past, tooth loss used to be resolved by giving people removable dentures or bridges. However, dental implants have revolutionised treatment for people with broken or absent teeth. A dental implant (also known as an endosseous implant or fixture) is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. The basis for modern dental implants is a biologic process called osseointegration where materials, such as titanium, form an intimate bond to bone. The majority of dental implants are made out of commercially pure titanium, which is available in four grades depending upon the amount of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and iron contained. A dental implant is an ideal solution to permanently replace both the missing tooth and root and is therefore one of the most widely applicable solutions to restore people’s smiles.

ALL-ON-4

For people whose mouth’s aren’t able to have normal implants fitted but want to replace a full set of teeth, there is a new treatment called ‘All on 4’ which employs cleverly sited implants at the back and front of the jaws to form a foundation for dentures or bridges to span. All on 4 is less invasive than full implant treatments and the temporary teeth are fixed so patients can be free from their dentures on the day of implant placement. Once the healing period is completed and the implants have integrated with the bone, a high-quality, durable permanent titanium fixed bridge is fitted. For those patients who have suffered ill-fitting dentures or mobile, failing teeth for years, the provision of stable, comfortable, natural-looking teeth through dental implants really can restore that self-confidence and vitality that has often been lost.

  • Bridges
  • Dental implants
  • Crowns
  • Veneers (porcelain or composite)
  • Porcelain inlays and onlays
  • Fillings
  • Composite bonding
  • Dentures (this is usually a final option for dentists)
